Dad's Recovery
Everything seemed to be going smoothly till Dad got a high fever and appeared to be growing a bug on Saturday night. When Marsha heard the news she whipped out one of her medical text books to see what his problem was. She said he was going into Septic Shock.
He was Air-ambulanced to Saskatoon, from our local air port, on Sunday noon due to his blood pressure having a few dramatic dips. He was admitted to St Pauls again and was put on IV antibiotics but recovered pretty fast. His kidney function tests were up a bit, but the doc didn't seem to be worried. His White cell count was up to 23,000 which is septic, but came down to 12,000 on Monday (NORMAL is 6-8,000).
Dad is now at home and we are all glad! They never isolated a reason for the sepsis, but they assume it is the Old bug come back to haunt us. He will be on IV antibiotics at home for the next 12 days and oral antibiotics as well. His creatinine, Kidney function level, is down to 142 which is pleasing to the doctor (anything under 150) and white cell count is down as well.
Dad is feeling good, but he is a bit tired. On another note, the other kidney recipient was also back in Saskatoon. His problem was rejection. His fancy immunosuppressant medications are taking hold and his blood work is much more in control. The rejection seems to be reversing itself. He will be able to go home on Friday.
So we keep an eye on dad as he goes through these processes. He goes to Regina for a check up with his doctor on Tuesday, the same day we fly out to BC.
